Sometimes I forget how beautiful the city of Toronto really is. With daily responsibilities, stresses and hectic lives, it is easy to get caught up in a regular routine instead of taking the time to see the beauty that surrounds you. This summer I decided that I was not going to go on vacation and instead would have a staycation to enjoy my home and native city. This past weekend my friend had suggested that we go to the beach. Normally when I go to the beach I go to the Beaches in Toronto's east end but this time I wanted to try something different and instead decided to go to the Toronto Island beaches. Most of my experiences on the Toronto Island include going to Centreville and EDM concerts so I was looking forward to seeing the Toronto Island in a new way. Once my friend and I arrived at Ward's Island, I was mesmerized by its quaint beauty filled with small cottage-like homes, restaurants, luscious trees and, a quiet beach. As a city girl and lover of children's literature, I have an appreciation for all things picturesque so being on the lovely Ward's Island was a treat and nice departure from the Toronto Beaches.

Now on to my beach style! When my plans include basking in the sun and lying on the sand my go-to look of choice is vacation glam which consists of colourful, printed beach coverups, like the ones in this blog post but this time I wanted to try a look that was a little more laid back. Inspired by my "Canada Day Style Part One: Canadian Tuxedo" blog post I went with a denim-on-denim outfit. I loved wearing this outfit because it was easy to wear. Anytime I wanted to soak up the sun I could unbutton by blouse and when I wanted to be more covered up I could just as easily button my blouse right up! My outfit also had style cred' with the on-trend ripped denim shorts and the faded denim sleeveless blouse. Accessorizing with my outfit was easy because for a day out in the sun you must always wear a hat and some sunnies to protect your gorgeous face from the harmful rays of the sun. Khaki-coloured hats always look great with denim and a glamorous pair of gold-rimmed sunglasses are always a nice outfit addition. This pair and this pair is ultra-glam. To carry my water, snacks, towel and sunscreen, I carried my black faux leather backpack which was a stylish lifesaver because the weight of my bag was easily distributed and the faux leather material adds a chic touch.

A New Way to Style Your Scarf

Outfit Details: Dress is from Me to We Style (similar), Chain Necklace is from TopShop in London (similar), Heart Chakra Necklace is from Dogeared (similar), Sunglasses are Armani in Italy (similar), Scarf is Chanel (similar), Purse is from H&M in New York (similar), Rings are Marc Jacobs Special Items (similar, similar, similar) and Sandals are Birkenstocks (similar).

Scarves have always been a favourite accessory of mine. I love how they add a sense of luxury and personality to the simplest look. A simple skinny jeans and T-Shirt look has added interest when a scarf is added to the mix. In the fall, I love to wear my luscious red animal print scarf with my leather leggings, black T-Shirt and leather jacket because the bright and colourful print makes the outfit look chic and glamorous.

In this outfit, I decided to wear my scarf is a whole new way - on the strap of my purse! With the hot and humid weather, the last thing I want is to have an extra piece of fabric tied around my neck no matter how pretty my scarf may be. The inspiration for styling my scarf on my purse came when I went on a boat cruise the other night. The weather was moist, muggy and, wet which is like poison for my freshly blow dried hair. I decided to weave my scarf around my purse strap so that in the event that it started raining I could easily protect my hairstyle and save my blow dry. As I headed downtown to meet my friends, I saw my reflection in the glass of an office building and thought to myself, "I like the way my scarf looks when it is woven around my purse strap!"and decided to recreate the look when I was running errands the other day.

My black maxi dress was the perfect backdrop for a colourful printed scarf so I knew that the look would work. I chose my chainlink necklace because I love the '90's glam look of gold chains and if you look closely you will see a mini printed scarf woven between the chains so naturally the necklace was a shoe in for this look, it also doesn't hurt that it matches with my purse. Overall this was a look that I loved wearing because it made me feel comfortable and glamorous at the same time. I also enjoy that I got to style my scarf in a new way!
