Amanda's Fashion Spot Favourite Emmy Looks and Trends!

Last night was the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards and what a night it was! Winners included Breaking Bad, Modern Family, Claire Danes and, the very talented Derek Hough. However before the monologues, acceptance speeches and performances, was the red carpet where amongst the glitz, glamour and gowns, some beautiful trends emerged. This year some of the most talented television stars wore looks that were not only eye-catching but also embodied the looks that you need to keep your eye on this fall. Look down below to see some of Amanda's Fashion Spot's favourite Emmy red carpet looks and trends!

White Hot

White is one of fall's hottest colours and clearly Taylor Schilling of Orange is the New Black and Top Chef host, Padma Lakshmi got the memo. For this year's Emmy's, Schilling went for a simple yet sexy Thakoon gown that showed a lot of leg in a subtle way with its front slit. The soft gold stilettos and clutch accented the dress perfectly and added a warm touch to the frock as white can sometimes look cold. Padma Lakshmi also went for simple white gown for the Emmy's except hers is more form-fitting with a sliver of midriff that peaked out to say hello. Lakshmi's look shows that wearing a fitted outfit and showing skin at the same time can be tasteful.

Red, Red Wine

Red on the red carpet is monochromatic and always glamorous, but sometimes it is good to change it up a little by wearing a variation of the primary colour. Kaley Cuoco's Vera Wang wine coloured strapless gown with sheer panel and ruffled skirt was feminine and romantic while still maintaining the glam factor. The black and gold jewellery work well with the wine shade of the gown and collectively the look is lovely. Downton Abbey actress, Michelle Dockery's two-tone halter Prada gown is still glamorous but in a more refined, elegant way and the embellished clutch adds some fun to the overall look.

Black and White

There is something very Old Hollywood about black and white as it always has a way of looking enchanting and classic. As you can see above, there are many ways to wear the two most contrasting shades on the spectrum of colours whether you are on one extreme or the other, you are sure to make an impact. In her Donna Karan Atelier gown, Emilia Clarke looks like a nymph with the soft ruffles on her dress and relaxed expression. Elisabeth Moss looks beautiful in her Andrew Gn gown. The black sparkling bodice contrasts with her bright blonde hair making for a dazzling look. It is difficult for Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks to look anything but Old Hollywood and her look from this year's Emmys was no different with the black lace shoulders on her Christian Siriano gown.

Blue Gradation

Ladies and gentlemen, blue is having a moment this fall. In all shades, light, dark and somewhere in between, blue is coming to an outfit on you! The stars on the Emmys red carpet this year were clearly paying attention as can be seen in the various shades of blue in the gorgeous gowns below.

Powder Blue

These soft, very light shades of blue are ethereal and heavenly. Each gown is made of lightweight fabric with added embellishments and appliques which make the dresses soft, feminine and, beautiful. Malin Akermann's dress is such a light shade of blue that it is almost white and with a simple bracelet, ring and clutch bag, it is all the accessories that the dress needs. Former Dancing with the Stars dancer Julianne Hough's Jenny Packham dress is a dream in soft blue with an off-the-shoulder neckline and sheer skirt that shows just a hint of skin.

Sea Blue

In the middle of the blue spectrum we have Giuliana Rancic wearing an absolutely gorgeous decadently printed mermaid gown by Canadian luxury fashion designer, Mikael D. Rancic looks as if she emerged from the sea as a beautiful goddess a la Aphrodite. Mad Men star Jessica Pare was also a vision in blue in her Oscar De La Renta gown with its high/low hemline and bow neckline. Overall, Jessica Pare's dress is very reminiscent of mid-century fashion and a definite hit on the red carpet.

Cobalt Blue

Tina Fey and Allison Williams knocked it out of the ball park with their bright cobalt blue gowns. Each gown is very different but makes an equally large impact. Emmy winner, Tina Fey is wearing a custom-made Narciso Rodriguez gown that has one of my favourite necklines, which is a variation of the halter neckline and looks very 1950's bombshell. Girls star Allison Williams looked like the ideal All-American preppy princess in this blue Ralph Lauren classic strapless gown. Sometimes a simple silhouette is all you need to make the right impression and Allison Williams certainly did.

My Latest Fall Fashion Shopping Finds!

It is now September and soon the leaves will start to change colour. The air will cool down and we will need to dress accordingly, that is where going fall fashion shopping comes in. It is out with the frilly, lightweight summer pieces and in with the rich colours and knits. I always love to visit the stores in August to see what little fall fashion pieces have hit the stores. Before I go shopping, I also love to review all of the fall fashions so I can keep an eye out for the each seasons contemporary fashions. Although I do not consider my personal style "trendy", I do always enjoy adding pieces that are in style to my wardrobe so that my outfits look modern.

As I browsed through the stores to purchase these specific looks, I found myself gravitating more and more to fashion pieces that were edgier and darker, which had me thinking about the punk/grunge trend was originally in back in the good 'ole, now nostalgic '90's. At that time I was about ten and honestly, I couldn't stand the look because I found it dirty-looking. I was more into style that resembled the fashions of the Spice Girls. However, now that I am an adult I can appreciate the darker tones, shiny leathers and more serious look, if you will.

This first outfit features one of my favourite trends for fall, which is mixed materials. There is something about a leather or faux leather sleeve that just adds a tough-chic look to a simple coat. Olive green is also one of my preferred colours for fall, as it is earthy and natural. This coat was purchased from H&M. The black sweater is 100% cashmere and a steal at $69 coming from Joe Fresh. The waxy black pants that evoke a leather look are also from Joe Fresh.

This second look is one that I love dearly as it features these fabulous, perfectly-fit oxblood jeans that I wore in my winning blog submission for the GUESS Watches blog, GUESS Access last year. When I spotted this striped, boxy blazer (another find from H&M) I fell for the thick yet lightweight fabric. The boxy cut was something that I was drawn too because I find that boxy blazers are more flattering on my body type.

No matter how cold it may be, I just love to wear a miniskirt! I was attracted to this skirt because of the gold studs and olive green colour (can you see a theme here?). I purchased the skirt from H&M and it was on sale for $20. Although I decided to wear this skirt with a faux leather jacket and white T-shirt, it would also look great with a knit sweater that hits just at the hip. The aforementioned faux leather jacket is from Joe Fresh and my favourite part about it is the large, loose, floppy lapel that is hard to see in this photo.

Animal print is one of my most beloved prints and combined with the 3/4 length-sleeve shift dress, you have a winning match! I chose to wear this dress with these purple shoes because bright, saturated colours work so well with the neutral shades in animal print. Truthfully, when I look at this outfit the two things that come to mind are: The Flinstones and Barney but in person the outfit looks much better. The dress is from Joe Fresh. God, I just love that store.

This dress is what I like to call, to quote Kim Richards, "Va Voom Sha Bang". The polka dot sheer neckline and sleeves with the fitted black body of this dress are very reminiscent of Stella McCartney's sheer polka dot dress from her Fall 2011 collection. However, this dress is from American Apparel and is just as sexy as the inspiration. I plan on wearing this dress on a hot date!

Last but not least is this 100% silk, polka dot, button-up from Joe Fresh! Normally when I see polka dot clothing in the stores, they are in black and white so it was refreshing to find polka dot in two different shades of blue, which also happens to be the colour a la mode for the fall season.

The Latest News on Amanda's Fashion Spot

Source: www.guesswatches.com
Hey everyone!

Remember a few months back when I told you about my exciting position as a fashion blogger with the GUESS Watches blog, GUESS Access? Well another one of my blogs have been posted! This latest post was all about the oh-so-trendy and ever-so-grunge-inspired camo print! The variegated print was popular in the summer and it is not going anywhere this fall. In this GUESS Access blog post, I decided to pair my camo print pants and cropped jacket with clothing items that were a little unexpected and of course, I accessorized each outfit with a GUESS Watch. The watch of choice was a sliver timepiece stunner with clean lines and it went perfectly with each of the looks.
