Amanda's Fashion Spot Favourite Emmy Looks and Trends!

Last night was the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards and what a night it was! Winners included Breaking Bad, Modern Family, Claire Danes and, the very talented Derek Hough. However before the monologues, acceptance speeches and performances, was the red carpet where amongst the glitz, glamour and gowns, some beautiful trends emerged. This year some of the most talented television stars wore looks that were not only eye-catching but also embodied the looks that you need to keep your eye on this fall. Look down below to see some of Amanda's Fashion Spot's favourite Emmy red carpet looks and trends!

White Hot

White is one of fall's hottest colours and clearly Taylor Schilling of Orange is the New Black and Top Chef host, Padma Lakshmi got the memo. For this year's Emmy's, Schilling went for a simple yet sexy Thakoon gown that showed a lot of leg in a subtle way with its front slit. The soft gold stilettos and clutch accented the dress perfectly and added a warm touch to the frock as white can sometimes look cold. Padma Lakshmi also went for simple white gown for the Emmy's except hers is more form-fitting with a sliver of midriff that peaked out to say hello. Lakshmi's look shows that wearing a fitted outfit and showing skin at the same time can be tasteful.

Red, Red Wine

Red on the red carpet is monochromatic and always glamorous, but sometimes it is good to change it up a little by wearing a variation of the primary colour. Kaley Cuoco's Vera Wang wine coloured strapless gown with sheer panel and ruffled skirt was feminine and romantic while still maintaining the glam factor. The black and gold jewellery work well with the wine shade of the gown and collectively the look is lovely. Downton Abbey actress, Michelle Dockery's two-tone halter Prada gown is still glamorous but in a more refined, elegant way and the embellished clutch adds some fun to the overall look.

Black and White

There is something very Old Hollywood about black and white as it always has a way of looking enchanting and classic. As you can see above, there are many ways to wear the two most contrasting shades on the spectrum of colours whether you are on one extreme or the other, you are sure to make an impact. In her Donna Karan Atelier gown, Emilia Clarke looks like a nymph with the soft ruffles on her dress and relaxed expression. Elisabeth Moss looks beautiful in her Andrew Gn gown. The black sparkling bodice contrasts with her bright blonde hair making for a dazzling look. It is difficult for Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks to look anything but Old Hollywood and her look from this year's Emmys was no different with the black lace shoulders on her Christian Siriano gown.

Blue Gradation

Ladies and gentlemen, blue is having a moment this fall. In all shades, light, dark and somewhere in between, blue is coming to an outfit on you! The stars on the Emmys red carpet this year were clearly paying attention as can be seen in the various shades of blue in the gorgeous gowns below.

Powder Blue

These soft, very light shades of blue are ethereal and heavenly. Each gown is made of lightweight fabric with added embellishments and appliques which make the dresses soft, feminine and, beautiful. Malin Akermann's dress is such a light shade of blue that it is almost white and with a simple bracelet, ring and clutch bag, it is all the accessories that the dress needs. Former Dancing with the Stars dancer Julianne Hough's Jenny Packham dress is a dream in soft blue with an off-the-shoulder neckline and sheer skirt that shows just a hint of skin.

Sea Blue

In the middle of the blue spectrum we have Giuliana Rancic wearing an absolutely gorgeous decadently printed mermaid gown by Canadian luxury fashion designer, Mikael D. Rancic looks as if she emerged from the sea as a beautiful goddess a la Aphrodite. Mad Men star Jessica Pare was also a vision in blue in her Oscar De La Renta gown with its high/low hemline and bow neckline. Overall, Jessica Pare's dress is very reminiscent of mid-century fashion and a definite hit on the red carpet.

Cobalt Blue

Tina Fey and Allison Williams knocked it out of the ball park with their bright cobalt blue gowns. Each gown is very different but makes an equally large impact. Emmy winner, Tina Fey is wearing a custom-made Narciso Rodriguez gown that has one of my favourite necklines, which is a variation of the halter neckline and looks very 1950's bombshell. Girls star Allison Williams looked like the ideal All-American preppy princess in this blue Ralph Lauren classic strapless gown. Sometimes a simple silhouette is all you need to make the right impression and Allison Williams certainly did.
