Emerald is the new black.......and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The colour gods a.k.a Pantone, the authority on colour trends in technology, interior design and most importantly, fashion have spoken and the colour of the year is, drum roll please…emerald!  Think the shade of those gorgeous Elie Saab gowns from his spring 2012 ready-to-wear collections or Poison Ivy but in a more contemporary way. Adding colour to your everyday style choices is an easy way to make a simple outfit, simply amazing. Pantone describes emerald as a lush colour that brings a sense of clarity, radiance and elegance to any look, making it the ideal colour for this girl’s wardrobe!

Coincidentally today is St. Patrick's Day and what better day to wear emerald. With the sun shining and the weather warming up, it is time to don your favourite green pieces and spend your day or evening having some good fun!

Here are a few of my favourite emerald outfits to provide you with some inspirations for your St. Patty's Day outfit and any other outfits for the remainder of the year:

Hat and Bag: H&M Sweater and Pants: Joe Fresh Boots: Ecco Necklace: Forever 21 Belt: Jean Machine
A Casual Look

If you plan on having a more relaxed day, may I suggest wearing an outfit like the one above? A cozy knit crew neck sweater like this one adds some interest with a chain-like print. The thickness of the sweater will provide warmth and allow you to wear a nice warm jacket without the heavy scarf and gloves. Skinny jeans are a staple for anytime you are having a low key day but would still like to look stylish and put together. For accessories, amp up the simple look with pieces that provide a fun contrast. For example, this fun animal print hat, gold woven belt and, multi-coloured necklace.

Vest, Bracelet and, Shoes: Joe Fresh Blouse: Ann Taylor (in New York) Pants: Suzy Shier Bag: Michael Kors

A Dinner and Drinks Look

Celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a good pint of green beer (or a cocktail) and a bite to eat? Then dress up your look a little bit with a silk blouse and faux fur vest! Two pieces that evoke an element of fancy that can be balanced out, when you add leggings and an everyday bag. Since dinner and drinks on St. Patrick's Day can be a more easygoing, casual affair with a touch of fun, pairing a more dressy look on the top and a simple look on the bottom is perfect for a night of dinner and drinks.

Jacket: Forever 21 Shirt: Gift Skirt: Joe Fresh Bag: Jacobs by Marc Jacobs Rings: Gift and Aldo
A Party Look

Parties are often part of St. Patrick's Day celebrations, so why not spice up that emerald green with a bold metallic piece such as this faux leather cropped jacket? Metallics of all shades are very on-trend for spring and look great when worn with a bold shade. When putting together an outfit for a party or night of dancing, colour is always a great thing to wear and makes more of an impact when worn monochromatically or with a contrasting shade.
