Toronto's LG Fashion Week Fall 2011 Collections Have Arrived!

After New York, Paris, London and Milan, Canada's biggest celebration of fashion has arrived! That's right ladies and gentlemen, LG Fashion Week is here and off to a fashionable start. After taking a sneak peek at the latest collections, I must say that this is my favourite Toronto fashion week thus far. The collections look much more cohesive and the tailoring is incredible with a dose of some amazing styling.

Take a look below and be inspired one of my favourite looks from LG Fashion Week so far:

 Greta Constantine

Fan favourites and the brains behind the seams, Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong, presented a nomadic collection filled with velvety textures, rich tones of forest green, royal purple and deep blue, obi belts and pompoms brooches to boot. Cinched waists complemented Japanese kimono-style sleeves while draped dresses accessorized with soft knit jersey scarves brought out the relaxed downtown girl in all of us.

My favourites include a long purple (so far the colour of LG Fashion Week) v-neck gown worn with an oversized grey sweater with a fur trimmed collar (far left photo). This look embodies that glamozon look of the seventies that is so on trend this spring with a carefree bohemia vibe. This look also shows you that it is ok, make that very ok, to wear a shorter jacket with a longer gown. How modern.

The middle look is a shiny slightly pleated velvet cape in a deep forest green with a large fur grey scarf reminiscent of a classic middle-aged fairytale. I could just see this look on a young woman making her way through the forest on a cold evening except in modern times, you would be wearing it making your way through the city after a fabulous night on the town.

The third look on the far right, shows you how to add some flair to a thick and cozy cold weather dress. In deep blue this above the knee dress is adorned with a multi-coloured pompom brooch and thick obi belt. Add an oversized bag and you are ready to run your errands on a cold autumn day!

Kudos to Kirk and Stephen on a cohesive and inspiring collection this season!

The World Says Goodbye to a Legend: Elizabeth Taylor Passes Away

Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor has sadly passed away. Known not only for her film roles and beauty, the actress was also fashion icon. On screen while playing Egyptian queen Cleopatra, she wore an array of bright colours and exotic jewelry while offscreen she was seen in beautiful jewelry and luxurious furs.  Being one of the first celebrities to have a fragrance, she undoubtedly will go down in history as someone to look up to. I know I always have.

Rest in peace, Elizabeth Taylor.

The Canadian Tuxedo Becomes Fashionable for CURE!

For all you denim lovers out there, you now have a new reason to break out your jean jackets, skinny jeans, high-waisted flares and blouses, because National Denim Day is on its way. If you need some inspiration, check out Ralph Lauren's Spring 2010 show.

Since May 1997 every Monday after Mother's Day has been National Denim Day, CURE Foundation's main fundraiser to provide funding for basic and clinical research for breast cancer. On this national day, workplaces and organizations are encouraged to wear denim or a pink flower ribbon for the day in exchange for a $5 donation to the CURE Foundation. All the money that you donate to the CURE Foundation will help support laboratories, researchers and other equipment that will go to help teach hospitals how to improve the outcome of breast cancer for those affected by the disease. You can also make a contribution to the foundation by purchasing some of their jewellery items, including an interlocking silver bangle bracelet or a pink CURE ring.

This year National Denim Day falls on May 10th, so get together with your office and don some denim! If you do not work in an office, wear denim anyways and show your support for the CURE Foundation. For more information on how to donate and get involved, click here!

Are you going to join in on the denim revolution? Let me know in the comments, Facebook and Twitter!

Buying a Counterfeit Bag Comes with a Price

Amanda's Fashion Spot is a strong advocate against the purchase of counterfeit products. As I have discussed before, the thrill of buying a fake Burberry bag for a tenth of the price may seem exciting, but what you don't know is that the money that you use to buy that bag often supports child labour and terrorism. What is often unknown is the amount of money that major fashion houses lose every time someone purchases a counterfeit bag or accessory and these fashion houses are not taking it lightly.

Three Canadian production companies have recently been sued by Burberry and Louis Vuitton for up to $3 million in damages for trademark and copyright infringement after they were caught selling counterfeit products. After a series of private investigations, it was discovered that these companies have been involved in purchasing knockoffs for quite some time with this lawsuit being called, the "largest anti-counterfeiting judgment in Canadian history".

How do you feel about counterfeit products? Have you ever purchased a counterfeit product? Let me know in the comments, Facebook and Twitter!

British Fashion Invasion Hits The Bay!

The British fashion invasion continues with the TopShop and Topman lines being the latest UK fashion exports to land in the Great Canadian North.

Soon Jonathan+Olivia won't be the only store carrying looks from the highly popular retailer because Canada's oldest department store, The Bay has earned the franchise rights to carry both shops within The Bay as well as standalone stores. Famous for their fast-fashion looks and designer collaborations with Kate Moss, their clothing is popular with fashionistas such as Lauren Conrad, Alexa Chung and Rachel Bilson.

If you can't wait to get your hands on some TopShop, you are going to have to wait a little longer because the line won't be available until the Fall. But don't fret, it gives you something to look forward to!

What fashion collections do you wish were available in Canada? What is favourite fashion collection import? Let me know in the comments, Facebook and Twitter!

Photo of the Day: It's Oscar Barbie!

Although Amanda's Fashion Spot does not normally discuss the beauty and hair of our beloved fashionistas, I just could not resist this adorable high ponytail worn by none other than Reese Witherspoon! Channeling Elle Woods and vintage Barbie, her blonde locks had slight wave that created a swish as she made her way down the red carpet.

This is the perfect way to add some spring to your hair for the upcoming warm months. Pun intended.

What were you favourite beauty looks from the Oscars? Let me know in the comments, Facebook and Twitter!
