Nails! Nails! Nails!: Colour Me Badd

As of late fashion trends have been getting crazier and crazier, Lady Gaga's infamous meat dress anyone? And it seems that the crazy has trickled down to the tips of our nails.

InStyle.com has recently posted how-tos on the latest nail trends from using metallic ribbon to two tone styles. All the risk taking in nail trends reminds me of the mid-nineties when I used to wear pastel blue nail polish with blue sparkles. It also reminds me that if you are a little timid when it comes to trying out new trends a great way to play it safe is with your nails.

Check out the avant-garde nail looks from InStyle.com:

A Little E.V.O.O. Goes Along Way

I don't know about you but once the summer is over I like to do a little beauty overhaul to accompany my fall fashion wardrobe overhaul. This means that I wear more make-up, paint my nails a little darker and moisturize!

Although the cooler weather does wonders for my hair (it keeps the frizzies away) it unfortunately does not have the same positive effect on my skin. As we all know once the temperature drops on the outside, your skin gets a little dry on the inside of your clothes and in all honesty, who wants dry skin?

My little secret for smooth supple skin is the following: olive oil and coarse salt. How exactly do these work? The salt helps exfoliate your skin while the oil moisturizes it revealing skin as smooth as silk.

Now keep in mind that this homemade exfoliator can be a little messy so make sure to do it in the bathroom and over a towel or in the bathtub.

Ingredients:

1/4 of Olive Oil
1/4 of Coarse Salt

Method:

1. Mix the olive oil and coarse salt in a small bowl.

2. Take the mixture in your hands and gently scrub your legs and arms.

3. Hop in the shower to rinse it off and your done!

That is all you need for a frugal and natural way to stay silky smooth under your skinny jeans and wool coats.

Enjoy!

Bon Aperitif!

Look no further than an Aperitif to start any fashionable dinner party, a must for any girls’ night in. What is an aperitif you ask? It’s an alcoholic drink served before a meal (think of it as an alcoholic appetizer) to stimulate the appetite.

Aperitif comes from the Latin word aperire meaning “to open” with he origins of the Aperitif still up for debate. Some speculate that serving an aperitif existed from the time of the ancient Pharoahs with the custom of serving an alcoholic appetizer being picked up in the 18th century by the Italians with the invention of Vermouth. When the 19th Century rolled around both American and Europeans alike adopted the custom of serving a cocktail before dinner. Thus the Aperitif was born!

There are several types of drinks usually served as Aperitfs such as champagne, sauvigon blanc, chablis, sherry’s and flavoured liqueurs, such as ouzo or campari. There are also many plant based Aperitifs such as those made with “bitters” (spirits flavoured with bither herbs) which have been used therapeutically throughout the ages.

So the next time your planning a grand dinner party, why not interest your guests with an Aperitif? This will definitely take your dinner party to the next level.

 Enjoy!

TIFF Red Carpet Fashion!

It's TIFF time in Toronto and you know what that means? Lights, Camera, Fashion! All the hottest stars are making their way to the T.Dot to not only celebrate their latest films but to display their latest fashion choices. Take a looksy below to see my favourite looks from the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival!

Here we have Camilla Belle dressed in a cap sleeved shift dress. With a fitted white strapless mini dress underneath a webbed black overlay, a classic look becomes a unique statement dress.

The Queen and the Upper East Sider each have a very different take on colour but the both looks definitely work. Helen Mirren is ladylike in a floral dress with green satin clutch fit for a classic English tea party. The sheen on her belt and bag compliment her radiant glow and bright smile. Blake Lively in a sequined burgundy dress with floral detail shows that autumnal shades and Chanel are always perfect for this time of year.

"September is the January of Fashion"-The September Issue

The fall season is just like Christmas! In less than one month alone there have several major events showcasing the latest fashionable creations by all the designers that we know and love. Fashion's Night Out and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week to name a few, but we will talk about that later.

First, we have my favourite looks from the Emmy Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards:

                                                      2010 Emmy Awards
January Jones took a risk on the red carpet and it paid off! She shined in a bright blue Atelier Versace gown that was reminiscent of mermaid's fin. Claire Danes carried on with the shine trend when she sparkled in a beautiful nude Armani Prive strapless gown and radiated down the red carpet.

2010 MTV Video Music Awards

There is something about a simple black dress that just always works whether it looks classic, sophisticated, edgy or sexy there is something about black that is just right. Ciara is glowing in a delicate black feathered skirt with fitted lace bodice by Givenchy. This look is not one that you see everyday but it sure does looks right. Emma Stone is wearing a fitted and rusched black leather minidress with tiny purple clutch purse. I just love the how this dress is simple yet sexy all in one. Nothing beats a little black dress.

Until the next red carpet!

Enjoy!

Your my Obsession: Fashion Television celebrates it's 25th Anniversary!

For any Canadian fashionista, you are familiar with the '80's pop song 'Obsession' for it signifies non other than the legendary Canadian and longest running fashion show, Fashion Television. For years we have all enjoyed seeing Jeanne Beker make her way backstage between the most high profile haute couture shows and land the most coveted interviews.

Now, the show is celebrating it's silver anniversary with a momentous birthday bash to be held at CTV's downtown location at the famous Queen and John. Along with the soiree is to be the release of a commemorative magazine that documents the pinnacle and memorable moments of Fashion Television throughout their 25 stylish years.

Now if your invitation to the fashionable and fabulous gets lost in the mail, do not fret my friend because it will all be televised on CTV on September 12th, 2010 at 7pm.

Enjoy!
