What I Wore To The Toronto Island

Outfit Details: Shirt is from Joe Fresh. It is originally had long sleeves but I cut the sleeves off (similar), Shorts are H&M (similar), Hat is from Le Chateau (similar), Sunglasses are from ALDO (similar), Shoes are Birkenstocks (same) and the Back Pack is from ALDO (similar).

Sometimes I forget how beautiful the city of Toronto really is. With daily responsibilities, stresses and hectic lives, it is easy to get caught up in a regular routine instead of taking the time to see the beauty that surrounds you. This summer I decided that I was not going to go on vacation and instead would have a staycation to enjoy my home and native city. This past weekend my friend had suggested that we go to the beach. Normally when I go to the beach I go to the Beaches in Toronto's east end but this time I wanted to try something different and instead decided to go to the Toronto Island beaches. Most of my experiences on the Toronto Island include going to Centreville and EDM concerts so I was looking forward to seeing the Toronto Island in a new way. Once my friend and I arrived at Ward's Island, I was mesmerized by its quaint beauty filled with small cottage-like homes, restaurants, luscious trees and, a quiet beach. As a city girl and lover of children's literature, I have an appreciation for all things picturesque so being on the lovely Ward's Island was a treat and nice departure from the Toronto Beaches.

Now on to my beach style! When my plans include basking in the sun and lying on the sand my go-to look of choice is vacation glam which consists of colourful, printed beach coverups, like the ones in this blog post but this time I wanted to try a look that was a little more laid back. Inspired by my "Canada Day Style Part One: Canadian Tuxedo" blog post I went with a denim-on-denim outfit. I loved wearing this outfit because it was easy to wear. Anytime I wanted to soak up the sun I could unbutton by blouse and when I wanted to be more covered up I could just as easily button my blouse right up! My outfit also had style cred' with the on-trend ripped denim shorts and the faded denim sleeveless blouse. Accessorizing with my outfit was easy because for a day out in the sun you must always wear a hat and some sunnies to protect your gorgeous face from the harmful rays of the sun. Khaki-coloured hats always look great with denim and a glamorous pair of gold-rimmed sunglasses are always a nice outfit addition. This pair and this pair is ultra-glam. To carry my water, snacks, towel and sunscreen, I carried my black faux leather backpack which was a stylish lifesaver because the weight of my bag was easily distributed and the faux leather material adds a chic touch.

A New Way to Style Your Scarf

Outfit Details: Dress is from Me to We Style (similar), Chain Necklace is from TopShop in London (similar), Heart Chakra Necklace is from Dogeared (similar), Sunglasses are Armani in Italy (similar), Scarf is Chanel (similar), Purse is from H&M in New York (similar), Rings are Marc Jacobs Special Items (similar, similar, similar) and Sandals are Birkenstocks (similar).

Scarves have always been a favourite accessory of mine. I love how they add a sense of luxury and personality to the simplest look. A simple skinny jeans and T-Shirt look has added interest when a scarf is added to the mix. In the fall, I love to wear my luscious red animal print scarf with my leather leggings, black T-Shirt and leather jacket because the bright and colourful print makes the outfit look chic and glamorous.

In this outfit, I decided to wear my scarf is a whole new way - on the strap of my purse! With the hot and humid weather, the last thing I want is to have an extra piece of fabric tied around my neck no matter how pretty my scarf may be. The inspiration for styling my scarf on my purse came when I went on a boat cruise the other night. The weather was moist, muggy and, wet which is like poison for my freshly blow dried hair. I decided to weave my scarf around my purse strap so that in the event that it started raining I could easily protect my hairstyle and save my blow dry. As I headed downtown to meet my friends, I saw my reflection in the glass of an office building and thought to myself, "I like the way my scarf looks when it is woven around my purse strap!"and decided to recreate the look when I was running errands the other day.

My black maxi dress was the perfect backdrop for a colourful printed scarf so I knew that the look would work. I chose my chainlink necklace because I love the '90's glam look of gold chains and if you look closely you will see a mini printed scarf woven between the chains so naturally the necklace was a shoe in for this look, it also doesn't hurt that it matches with my purse. Overall this was a look that I loved wearing because it made me feel comfortable and glamorous at the same time. I also enjoy that I got to style my scarf in a new way!

#SUMMERSTYLETRENDS with Amanda's Fashion Spot: Graphic Print T-Shirts

Outfit details: Jeans are from Joe Fresh (similar, similar) T-Shirt is from an Eiffel Tower gift shop in Paris (similar, similar), Scarf is from Le Chateau (similar, similar), Bag is from Forever 21 (similar, similar), Lip Ring is from Aldo Accessories (similar, similar), 'A' Ring is from Dogeared (similar, similar), Shoes are from Aldo (similar, similar) and Bracelets are from Alex and Ani (similar, similar)

T-Shirts are the old standby in most wardrobes and are loved for their wearability and simplicity. Despite my love of trying new fashion trends and styles, it is nice to sometimes throw on a simple T-Shirt. However lately, T-Shirts have become more than simple. There is a new wave of graphic T-Shirts that seem to be taking the fashion world by storm. These T-Shirts are not the same corny graphic T-Shirts that you might remember your Dad wearing when you were kid. The new crop of graphic T-Shirts are dare I say chic? stylish? You bet! With the right combination of sleek fonts and images, a basic T-Shirt can become fashion-forward just look at this T-Shirt and this T-Shirt. Even the way T-Shirts are styled are more fashion-minded than they once were and are often seen with statement necklaces like this one and leather leggings.

For this graphic print T-Shirt look, I decided to go with my Eiffel Tower T-Shirt because anything that references Paris is chic to me! The touches of red in my T-Shirt are what I used for this outfits colour inspiration and is also very fitting with Canada Day style. I felt that my red and white polka dot/striped scarf would work perfectly with this outfit along with my favourite lip ring and red handbag. Structured handbags are one of my favourite handbags to carry because there always seems to be a place in them to hold everything you need without the handbag becoming a bottomless pit. Metallic accents look good with any outfit so I decided to wear my initial ring, charm bracelets and black high heels with gold studs. I felt that my shoes were a great addition to this outfit because they add the right amount of edge.

Canada Day Style Part Four: Buffalo Checks

Source: dailymail.co.uk
Buffalo checks are always a wardrobe staple in the fall anywhere in Canada and can be seen on anything from button-up shirts, pea coats and scarves. The red and black colours are perfect for the darker skies and rich leaf colours in the autumn but it does not mean that the buffalo check must be reserved to the cooler seasons. Buffalo checks can fit right in for the summertime season as they resemble the warm season print, gingham and wearing red is perfect for Canada Day!

The buffalo check sleeveless shirt worn by Doutzen Kroes in the inspiration photo above is the right way to wear buffalo checks in the summertime. The styling of the blouse is perfect for a fun summer backyard BBQ as it is unbuttoned and tied around her waist making the look carefree and relaxed. Wearing a bright blue bikini top (this one is cute too) underneath adds to the summer feel. Yellow shorts are a fun piece to pair with red and black and surprisingly look good with other prints as well such as camo print like in this post. I love this pair and this pair of yellow shorts as well. To top off the look, Doutzen wears one of my favourite summertime hats. I love straw fedoras because they are easy to wear and make any outfit look cool while protecting your face from the sun. This pair and this pair are stylish and chic.

Canada Day Style Part Three: Red and White Canadian Day Outfit

Source: seamsforadesire.com
Our nation's flag is red and white so what better way to show your nation's pride by wearing these two beautiful shades together. Red is one of my personal favourite colours and looks fresh, nautical and summery when it is worn with the pure, clean shade of white. There are many ways that you can mix and match red and white into your Canada Day look, just read this article where I gave Canada Day style tips last year, but one of my favourite ways to mix and match the colours this year is with classic stripes. Stripes are a fun and subtle way to add colour to your outfit especially if you are someone who avoids colour. By wearing a red and white striped blouse on Canada Day not only will you look festive but you will look stylish too! This style outfit inspiration with its white skirt, animal print heels and black studded handbag are a great way to ring in Canada Day in style!

Scroll down below for an outfit analysis breakdown!

1) The Striped Blouse
I love the striped blouse above and also in the outfit inspiration photo because the stripes go in different directions which gives the classic style a twist. Part of reinventing an at times cheesy look is to give it a spin.

2) The White Skirt
Canada Day or not a white skirt is a great addition to your summer wardrobe! This mini skirt is similar to the style in the outfit inspiration photo and has an equally interesting hem making it more than just your average white summer skirt.

3) The Shoes
A touch of animal print makes any outfit instantly chic and I love how the girl in the inspiration photo  takes a simple look and makes it fashion-forward by wearing animal print heels. I love the animal print mules in the photo above.

Canada Day Style Part Two: Canadian Bikini

Source: Popsugar.com
If your Canada Day plans involve heading to the beach, lounging by the pool or even catching some sun in your backyard, take inspiration from the Canadian Tuxedo and wear a Canadian Bikini like supermodel Gigi Hadid. A denim bathing suit may be the last thing that you have in mind when you think of swimwear but many denim bathing suits are not made of the same fabric as your skinny jeans, but rather bathing suit material so no need to feel uncomfortable wearing your denim bikini! Canadian Bikini's have the same every day feel as a Canadian Tuxedo and can easily earn style points once you accessorize with it. Blue is also a very flattering shade on many skin tones and colourings so not only will you be celebrating Canadian style in your two-peice but you will also look good while doing it!

Scroll down below to see how you can wear this Canadian Bikini look!

1) The Bikini
Just like their two-legged counterparts, denim bikinis come in every shade of blue making it easy to choose a style that flatters your style and complexion the most. If you are hesitant to try this denim bikini then I recommend wearing a darker-hued style like the one above.

2) Loose Denim Blouse
Whenever I am lounging in my bikini, I always like to wear a swimsuit light cover up. The style above is actually a loose denim blouse that isn't necessarily meant to be worn as a swimsuit cover up but it can still function as a swimsuit cover up because it is larger which will keep you cozy and the denim fabric helps you achieve the Canadian Tuxedo look.

3) The Accessory
When you are in your swimsuit and you are not swimming why not wear a few accessories like Gigi? Gold accessories complement a denim bikini nicely because blue and gold are opposing colours so by mixing the two you create a dynamic look. I also love how when the gold jewelry is worn with a denim bikini and blouse the look becomes everyday chic.

Canada Day Style Part One: Canadian Tuxedo

Source: People.com
This Wednesday, July 1st our home and native land will celebrate it's birthday and in honour of this wonderful country I will blog about it's wonderful style or its wonderful style stereotypes. You see here in Canada there a few fashion items that we have become famous (or infamous) for. Fashion don'ts that at one point in time may have been stylish to some but as time went on became synonymous with cheesy, corny and tacky. However, here we are in the year 2015 where it seems as if anything goes in the world of style. What was once out is now in. What was once an eye sore is now stylish and unique. Amanda's Fashion Spot will take a look at some of Canada's style staples to show all of you how to reimagine them in new, fresh and fashionable ways.

Starting with the Canadian Tuxedo, I will be taking inspiration from Kylie Jenner's outfit above. This  interpretation of the Canadian Tuxedo has been very popular as of late being worn by fellow fashionistas Rihanna and her big sis Kim Kardashian. I love this look because it is a fresh take on the Canadian Tuxedo showing that in order to wear the infamous look you do not have to include jeans, all you need to do wear is denim or denim.

Scroll down below to get see how to put this outfit together!

1) The Denim Blouse

No Canadian Tuxedo would be complete without a denim blouse. I love the soft shade of this style above. The tiny buttons on the sleeves make it rolling up your sleeves a cinch! This blouse is also long enough to easily to tie around your waist a la Kylie's look or you can tuck your blouse in your skirt.

2) The Denim Skirt

We all know how edgy and stylish ripped jeans can look and a ripped, distressed denim skirt is no exception. I love how the rips and tears can give a sometimes dorky style such sass and personality. The medium wash of the skirt makes it versatile meaning you can wear it with a light denim blouse like this one or a dark denim blouse like this one and still rock the Canadian Tuxedo in style.

3) The Accessory
Canada may be known for its chilly winters but come July it is often sunny and one of the best ways to combat the sun in style is a pair of some sunnies. Like Kylie's look this pair of sunglasses has a zebra-like print which instantly gives your Canadian Tuxedo style cred.

What to Pack For A New York City Weekend Vacation!

Outfit details: Shirt is from H&M (similar), Shorts are from Joe Fresh (similar), Scarf is Vintage Chanel and I got it from the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market in NYC (similar), Sunglasses are from a Camden Market in London (similar), Bracelets are from Alex and Ani (similar), Rings are Marc Jacobs Specialty Items (similar), Handbag is Michael Kors (same) and the shoes are Birkenstocks (same).

"New York, New York It's a Helluva Town!" I should know since I have lived there and visited the Big Apple countless times. The city that never sleeps is an exciting, whirlwind of crazy, good energy, delicious food, fun events, Broadway shows and memorable events. Just walking down the street you might stumble upon an outdoor concert, a line-up for a fashion show, a television set or you favourite celebrity going for an afternoon bike ride. In fact, when I was there I saw Katy Perry and Russell Brand riding their bikes by Central Park! Living in Toronto, New York City is a very short plane ride away making it an easy hop, skip and a jump to shopping, socializing and strolling the powerful city. When travelling I think it is always fun to pack clothes that reflect your destinations fashion sense. By doing that it makes packing easier and adds to the fantasy of your whole trip. Whenever I travel, I always feel like I am going on an adventure and by wearing clothes that fit with in that adventure it makes me more excited about my trip. New York City is known for its chic, clean and modern style so I recommend packing clothes that fit within that style. Think blazers, clean lines and flowing fabric. Although black is synonymous with New York City style, that does not mean that wearing colour is completely out of the question. Have fun with your wardrobe, take clothing risks that you wouldn't normally take while at home and let the city inspire your style. As a fashionista, you will be happy to know that New York City is filled with amazing shopping destinations so it is easy to add clothes to your travel wardrobe. When packing I recommend choosing versatile pieces such as, a necklace, a jumpsuit, stilettos, a blazer and a tote bag.

1) The Necklace

Source: Alex and Ani

When you are going to be on vacation for a short time I recommend packing one statement piece of jewelry that you can wear with multiple outfits, that way you can dress up the most simple day outfit and the most fancy night look in a few short seconds. The above necklace from Alex and Ani is from their "Road to Romance" collection and fits right in with the chic style of New York City. I love the tassel-like detail and shape of this necklace which resembles a bird.

2) The Jumpsuit

Source: GUESS
Jumpsuits are on trend and easy to wear whether you are visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art , shopping at the Brooklyn Flea Market or grabbing drinks. I love this black style from GUESS because it can be worn with anything from an everyday handbag like this pair during the day and a necklace like the one above at night.

3) The Stiletto

Source: GUESS

The concrete jungle was made for wearing heels. Well maybe it wasn't but the hard New York City streets make wearing stilettos that much more fun because of the click-y sound they make when you are walking down the street. This strappy, nude pair is dressy and will look good with anything from the above jumpsuit to a pair of distressed jeans to a colourful print mini dress like this one

4) The Summer Blazer

Source: GUESS
Blazers are now interchangeable with jackets and despite the hot, muggy heat of New York City once the sun sets, the weather always gets cooler which is why packing a blazer is paramount. A blazer is a stylish and easy way to stay warm. I love this nautical-looking pair from GUESS. With its gold buttons and minimal lapel, it is the perfect accent piece to a great look.

5) The Tote Bag
Source: GUESS
The]is black tote bag with its simple design and gold chain is not only good for stashing your travel essentials but it works for carrying around when sightseeing and taking #OOTDs and #selfies. After you unpack your things in your hotel or Air BnB room, use this bag to store your room key, cell phone and cash so you fit right in with the stylish New Yorkers.
