Alex and Ani: Wearing Positive Energy is Always in Style

The past year has really made me realize the importance of positive thoughts, which I have learned in turn breed positive energy. At times when it may feel like you can't catch a break and nothing seems to be working out, it is comforting to have something positive to look at to reassure you that, "this too shall pass". In some cases, it feels even better to wear something that reminds you of the positive energy that surrounds you and the good things that lie ahead. This is why I am happy to share with you my latest Alex and Ani bangle set. The Lotus Peace Petal charm represents illumination, beauty and resilience with the lotus signifying the progression of the soul. The Mother Mary charm epitomizes love and mercy while exemplifying grace, compassion and hope. If you don't know already, Alex and Ani is a positive energy lifestyle brand that creates distinct charms and bangles that can be layered or worn on their own.  Each bangle has its own special detail - a seahorse charm, beads or a positive saying - making the bangles a versatile accessory. If I am getting ready to curl up in bed or heading home from my day job, Alex and Ani fits in right with my look because wearing positive energy is always in style.

Will you be wearing positive energy and trying out Alex and Ani? Let me know in the comments below, Facebook and Twitter! Also, don't forget to check out Amanda's Fashion Spot on Pinterest and Instagram!

Crop Tops and Pencil Skirts

Take a look at any celebrity, fashion blogger or street style star and it's not difficult to see that crop tops are cropping up here, there and everywhere! With the popularity of green juices, spin classes and an overall healthy lifestyle, it is no surprise that women are feeling more comfortable putting their midriff on display. However, the brilliance of the popular crop top is that you can wear one regardless of your size which further explains why the miniature shirt is such a summer fashion favourite. There are many things that one can wear with a crop top from distressed jeans to maxi skirts to shorts but my personal favourite fashion item to wear with tiny tops is the classic, slim cut pencil skirt. Let's be honest, a crop top can be quite revealing so a pencil skirt is the perfect antidote to looking too sexy when wearing a crop top. Scroll down for tips on how to wear crop tops and pencil skirts!

1. A T-Shirt Crop Top
Source: atlantic-pacific.blogspot.com
Crop tops come in all fits, shapes and sizes but just like its regular-sized counterpart the T-Shirt, a T-Shirt style crop top is a classic style that will work with just about anything. In the outfit above, we see that a simple black crop top has been paired with an ombre circular printed pencil skirt and this is a great pairing because it creates balance. The high waist style of the skirt reveals just a sliver of skin keeping the outfit ladylike.

2. A Boxy T-Shirt Crop Top
Source: obaz.com
If you would like to wear a more modern looking T-Shirt with your crop top, you may try a boxy T-Shirt crop top that has the same look of a T-Shirt but is less fitted. Wearing a neutral coloured crop top with a brightly coloured pencil skirt creates a balanced look with added interest that is still modern.

3. A Printed Crop Top
Source: fashionablygeek.com
Prints are always fun and mixing prints in one outfit is even more fun. This polka dot print crop top compliments this pop art print pencil skirt wonderfully because it picks up the dots on the skirt. When wearing a printed crop top with a pencil skirt, printed or not, the same rules of matching with other fashion pieces apply: look for items with matching colours for a more complete look.

4. A Bustier Crop Top
Source: theglamorousgleam.com
There is nothing sexier than a crop top, well except a bustier crop top, which is why it works so well with a slim-fitting pencil skirt. This outfit worn by Selena Gomez exemplifies just how well a crop top and pencil skirt look together. The length of the skirt creates an equilibrium with the bustier crop top because it is knee length so it does not reveal too much skin.

5. A Long-Sleeved Crop Top
Source: lovebylynn.net
I just love the look of a long-sleeved crop top as it is a mix of two extremes all-in-one and creates a flirty yet somewhat conservative top. When the long-sleeved crop top is worn with a pencil skirt, the combination enhances the dichotomous feel of the crop top.

It's Back!: Five Ways To Wear Tie Dye Print

The tie dye trend is back and if you didn't already know, all you have to do is take a look at the resort 2015 designer collections where tie dye pieces were shown by Michael Kors, Alexander Wang and Gucci. Various tie dye techniques, such as shibori and ikat were used by early civilizations and in the 1960's resist-dyeing gained popularity being characterized by bright, saturated colours and spiral patterns. The tie dye prints of the 1960's were typically found on giant, shapeless T-shirts and were worn by hippies and protesters alike but the tie dye prints of today are found on clothing items that are a little more fashion-forward, a moto-jacket or a pencil skirt for example. The great thing about tie dye prints is that they inject a splash of fun to otherwise simple, summer pieces. Have you ever wanted to give the tie dye print trend a try? Scroll down below for inspiration!

1. The Tie Dye Blouse
Source: allure.com
Fashion blogger superstar, Aimee Song from Song of Style certainly knows style. The way she has styled this blue and white tie dye print blouse is how to the wear the print if you want to have fun with your look but still remain on the side of a fashionista. If you are hesitant about wearing tie dye, try the print in a fashion piece that can easily be worn with other pieces such as a blouse. When wearing tie dye prints, many of the same colour matching rules still apply. As you can see in Aimee's outfit, she paired the bright blue with a contrasting coral coloured jacket.

2. The Tie Dye Kimono
Source: boohoo.com
Kimonos are a laid-back fashion item that look just right with a relaxed pair of shorts and simple tank top as is shown above. When you add tie dye print to a kimono, you have a laid-back fashion item that is playful. As this outfit shows, tie dye print works exceptionally well when worn with basic pieces as it adds a joyful touch to an otherwise uncomplicated look.

3. The Tie-Dye Romper
Source: shopsosie.hardpin.com
Rompers are your summer wardrobe's answer to carefree dressing because you have the comfort of a dress without the worry of exposing too much when you uncross your legs. What makes the look of a carefree romper even more interesting is a tie dye print, whether the print is multi-tonal, multi-coloured or monochromatic the unique print gives the romper a sense of playfulness.

4. The Tie Dye Shorts
Source: blogdathassia.com.br
Shorts are a summer style essential and when they are a multi-coloured tie dye print they go from a basic pair of shorts to bottoms with a blast. When wearing tie dye shorts pair them with a solid loose-fitting blouse because it keeps the look chic and sophisticated while still maintaing the fun factor.

5. The Tie Dye Dress
Source: champagneandpizza.tumblr.com
There is nothing more glamorous than a full-length dress with a thigh-high slit. Ever since Angelina Jolie wowed the world with her right leg, dresses with thigh-high slits have been seen everywhere. Now if you wear a thigh-high slit you are sure to make dramatic statement and when you want to keep that statement cheerful, wear your dress in tie dye print! As you can see in the outfit above, a dress that would otherwise be appropriate to wear to a formal evening event is now something that you can wear to an occasion that is less formal.

Mirrored Sunglasses: The Present Is So Bright You Gotta Wear Shades

As Frank Sinatra once said, "Put your sunglasses on, because you ain't going home till the morning comes." We all know that we don't need to wear sunglasses during the late hours of the night but there is something about a cool pair of shades that makes you not want to take them off. Case in point, the summer season's holographic, prismatic mirrored sunglasses trend that have been seen on just about everyone from Kendall Jenner, Olivia Palermo and Alessandra Ambrosio. The metallic-looking lenses come in various jewel tone shades from rose-gold to sky blue to emerald green. The interesting part about this eyewear trend is that they work well with just about any look. Throw on a pair of these bright, shiny sunnies and you will enhance your outfit's cool quota by 100%. Metallic sunglasses are the finishing touch of a hot summer outfit, just look down below to see for yourself.

The lightweight style of this crop top combined with the small handheld clutch make for a look that is feminine yet avant garde and with the addition of the mirrored sunnies, the overall look goes from an 8 to a solid 10.

2. The Chic Everyday Look

While this outfit is stylish all on its own with its black blazer, animal print bag, purrrfect flats and distressed jeans, the mirrored shades bring the look to a whole new level of style by adding a pop of colour with its emerald lenses.

3. The Cool Casual Look

Hilary Duff's loose-fitting tank top, jean shorts and fashionable hat make for an outfit that personifies laid-back summer cool - including the mirrored aviators to her outfit makes the outfit even cooler.

Who says an outfit that you would wear to a lunch meeting cannot have a trendy and fashionable touch? Metallic sunnies with an outfit like this will have you looking like a boss.

For those times when you need to look put together and fashionable at the same time, accessorizing your outfit with a jewelled statement necklace is a good way to do it and adding a pair of metallic, mirrored sunglasses is an even better way.

Summer Music Festival Fashion

We are in the middle of the summer, which means longer days, brighter skies and warmer temperatures - the perfect recipe for a summer music festival! Lucky for us, there are three summer music festivals this upcoming long weekend: Drake's OVO Festival, Montreal's Osheaga and the country musical festival, Boots and Hearts. Over the last few years, music festivals have become more than just watching the musical performers. Music festivals have become somewhat of a fashionable affair with concert goers strutting up and down the grassy fields in striking festival fashion. Each musical festival has its own distinct style that makes the music festival experience that much more memorable - whether it be a floral headdresses at Coachella or rain boots at Glastonbury. Like the musical festivals before them, OVO Festival, Osheaga and, Boots and Hearts have certain style staples that will keep you enjoying the music in style all weekend long.

Scroll down below to check out the looks!

1. OVO Festival Style

Started by Toronto's very own Drake, the OVO Festival has been going strong for the past few years. The surprise guests at each festival such as Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z and Kanye West, have made the event a summer must-see musical happening for concert goers alike. The relaxed vibe of the Molson Amphitheatre, the resident venue of OVO Fest, and the awesome music calls for a look that is equally  relaxed and awesome. Using Rihanna's a.k.a. the former Bad Girl Ri Ri outfit as inspiration I suggest that when attending OVO Fest wearing distressed jeans are the way to go, such as this pair by GUESS. A pop of colour adds to the fun factor of the look like this yellow polka dot top also by GUESS, is a fun summertime choice. Like most summer music festivals, OVO Fest occurs when the sun is still shining and a cool pair of black aviators like the one above from WATCH IT! will do just the trick when you need to protect those peepers. As I mentioned many times before, time flies when you are having fun but just in case you need to keep track of the time the above watch from WATCH IT! with its aqua coloured face is a nice contrast the bright yellow top.

2. Osheaga Style

The popular Canadian music festival held in Parc Jean-Drapeau Montreal attracts some pretty cool performers from OutKast, Flume, Lykke Li, London Grammar and Skrillex making it a major attraction for music lovers. Unlike Coachella, the style at Osheaga is a little more varied ranging from hippie style peasant blouses to brightly coloured printed skirts and dresses. Whether you attend one day or all three days of the concert event, I recommend wearing something comfortable and colourful such as the above dress worn by one half of the Beckerman Twins and this floral dress by GUESS. To accessorize, throw on a matching yet edgy fringe bag such as this one by Manitobah Mukluks, plastic-rimmed super-trendy mirrored lens sunglasses and a sleek watch from WATCH IT!.

3. Boots and Hearts Style
Source: huffingtonpost.com
Source: GUESS

Source: WATCH IT!
If country music is your thing, then the Boots and Hearts festival is your jam. This year, the country music festival is set to have sexy country star, Blake Shelton, the popular Luke Bryan and the all male group, High Valley. Country music style is all about denim, denim, denim whether it be short shorts a la country music superstar Carrie Underwood or the currently trendy overalls such as this pair by GUESS. A bustier style top like the one above from GUESS with a tiny floral print adds to the fun, sassy country music vibe. This leather-looking bag from BRIKA and long strapped watch from WATCH IT! play up the rugged country music feel and have you fitting right in when you are grooving to some country music!

All of that standing, walking, dancing and partying at the music festivals can take a toll on your tootsies and as we all know ladies, no outfit is complete without shoes. However when attending a music festival, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes with style. Check out a few cozy footwear styles below!

What do you plan on wearing to the music festivals this upcoming long weekend? What are your music festival style staples? Let me know in the comments below, Facebook and Twitter! Also, don't forget to check out Amanda's Fashion Spot on Pinterest and Instagram!
