Style Crush, Style Staples 'IT' Models Edition: Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner is more than a reality star, she is a supermodel or an 'IT' model, if you will. With Kendall's immense popularity on social media (hello 26 plus million Instagram followers!), an extremely popular reality show called, Keeping Up With The Kardashians and, Olympic genes she has catapulted herself to the top of the modelling world. Miss Jenner has posed for the pages of GQ, Interview, Allure and, Teen Vogue to name a few and has strutted down the runways of Marc Jacobs, Balmain, Chanel and Givenchy among many others.

Despite her famous family, Kendall is a star all on her own. If it weren't for her strong work ethic, good attitude and knack for posing then she would not have the staying power that she has. At this rate, there is no doubt that Miss Jenner will around for a very long time.

When it comes to her style, Kendall likes to borrow from the boys whether it be a blazer like the one that she wore to the Billboard Music Awards or her love of oxfords. Her style staples are basic with a little bit of an edge for example, instead of wearing simple jean shorts she will wear jean shorts with rips and tears. To see more of Kendall's enviable style staples - jean shorts,  jumpsuits, halter tops, hats and crop tops - scroll down below!

1) Jean Shorts
Source: blog.styleestate.com
Source: outfitid.com
The casual summer style staple is a go-to for Kendall and with her long legs she knows how to wear them, whether it be with a laid-back white T-shirt or a black coat, furry bag or strappy heels. Kendall's fondness for jeans shorts exemplify her love for simple fashion pieces especially ones that have a bit of a tomboy flare.

2) Jumpsuits
Source: buzzfeed.com
Source: iainclaridge.co.uk
Jumpsuits are back with a vengeance so naturally Kendall would wear one too. A jumpsuit is one of Kendall's go-to pieces when she hits the red carpet and has been spotted in black, white, blue and orange coloured styles.

3) Halter Tops
Source: dailymail.co.uk

Source: pressroomvip.com
A favourite style of the 2000's Kendall knows how to wear a halter top and with shoulders like hers they are a natural fit. Halter tops are an unique alternative to spaghetti straps, strapless and one-shoulder styles and have an innate summer feeling to them. As Kendall shows, halter tops can be worn with anything from a pencil skirt to cropped pants. I recommend wearing them with a maxi skirt for an earth mama vibe.

4) Hats
Source: refinery29.com
Source: shopstyle.com
Aside from aviator sunglasses, Kendall's signature accessory is a good ole' hat. As a native of sunny California, there is no surprise there. Her favourite hat is a classic wide-brimmed grey fedora which she has been spotted wearing all over place. Fedoras are great pieces to have in your wardrobe because they take a simple outfit and make it look cool. Baseball hats are another favourite of Kendall's and add to her tomboy style.

5) Crop Tops
Source: vogue.co.uk
Source: vogue.com
The 5ft. 10" model has an affinity for crop tops and who could blame her? With her athletic genes and slender frame, the girl has got abs and you know what they say, "if you've got it, flaunt it"! Crop tops were a huge trend last summer and if Miss Jenner has her way they are not going anywhere. In the first look, Kendall shows how to wear crop tops in a sophisticated way with her nude coat and powder blue pants. The hint of belly keeps her outfit young and fresh. In the second look, the 'it' model wears her black crop top in a more athletic way with her top knot and aviator sunglasses.

Five Ways to Wear a Denim Dress for Spring!

Spring is here to stay for the next few months and with a new season comes new trends. This season one of the hottest fashion trends is the denim dress. Denim does not have to stay on those stems or those shoulders, denim can be reinvented into a comfortable, carefree and at times sexy dress. Much like their two-legged counterparts, the denim dresses this season come in more than fifty shades of indigo and have the same level of versatility. A denim dress can have a neck collar, be strapless, long-sleeved or collarless and look best with a hemline no longer than knee-length.

Scroll down below to see five different ways to wear a denim dress!

The Preppy Way
Source: classygirlswearpearls.com
According to the updated version of The Official Preppy Handbook, True Prep the new way to look like a prepster is to underdress, which makes this denim dress look perfect for the preppy woman in you. The cream coloured sweater complements this lightweight relaxed denim dress and the pearl knotted necklace has preppy written all over it.

The Relaxed Way
Source: glamradar.com
Despite denim being inherently a worker's pant as time has gone by denim has become synonymous with being casual and laid-back as you can see in the outfit above. Nothing says laid-back summer cool style like a straw fedora and when worn with this printed scarf, buckled booties and an animal print clutch, this relaxed denim dress look is complete.

The Girls Night Out Way

Source: the fancy.com

Next time you have girl's night out instead of wearing a LBD maybe try wearing a LDD a.k.a Little Denim Dress! The dress in the look above has all of the makings of a going out dress: cinched waist, point of interest with the studded shoulders and an above the knee hemline. The pink animal print clutch is the perfect accessory for the LDD because it carries all that you need for a night out with the girls and the colour contrasts nicely with the indigo shade of the dress.

The Sophisticated Way
Source: Pinterest.com
Who knew a shade of denim other than dark indigo could look sophisticated? When a denim dress is tailored to your figure and worn with chic sunglasses, a classic handbag with gold hardware and a sleek silver watch, your denim dress has reached sophisticated status - in an approachable street style kind of way.

The Date Night Way
Source: Pinterest.com
Warmer weather, blossoming flowers and a brighter sun mean more opportunities for date nights! Whether you are going to a concert, playing mini golf or eating ice cream with your sweetie, a polka dot denim dress like the one above is the way to go. Printed denim is not limited to your jeans and with the thick shoulder straps and above-the-knee hem, this is your new go-to date night dress!

Amanda's Fashion Spot Gets Interviewed by George Brown College Student! #HUMBLED

As a fashion blogger, fashion school graduate with honours and seasoned fashion intern, I know a thing or two about hard work and paying your dues. After many years of working hard to make a name for myself in the fashion industry, I have had my fair share of ups and downs and after going through each of these experiences, I have learned how important it is to never give up and stay true yourself. What I have loved most about writing Amanda's Fashion Spot is the opportunity to share my experiences and opinions with all of you! Like that time when I chronicled my journey to obtain a summer internship with Seventeen Magazine in New York City or when I won the GUESS Watches One to Watch worldwide contest and blogged for GUESS Access. I feel so grateful to have had these experiences and what is most rewarding about these accomplishments is the chance to pay it forward.

A few months ago I was contacted by George Brown College fashion student, Shanelle Stewart who asked if she could interview me for an assignment that she had for her Fashion Journalism course (the same Fashion Journalism course that inspired me to start my blog!) and I was so flattered. I was happy to oblige her request as once upon a time I too had to reach out to a fashion insider to interview and I remember how appreciative I was of the person that allowed me to interview them. Just in case you were wondering, it was fashion designer Zoran Dobric and you can read the interview here!

Being interviewed by Shanelle made me feel like I had come full circle. Scroll down below to read my interview with Shanelle!

"When Fashion Hits the Spot

Being a fashion student you always want to consider all your options within the fashion industry.

With being a fashion blogger you obviously have to know about fashion. The in's & out's. What's trending at the moment, what's coming back into style...etc. “Fashion is the something that I have always loved. When I was younger, I always expressing myself and fashion a way for me to do that”, says Stines. “ I used to enjoy spending time with my mother and aunts who loved fashion, shopping and reading magazines so their interests rubbed off on me, “ she adds.  As a blogger there is more to it than what meets the eye. A fashion blog can be about many different things such as different types of clothing and accessory pieces, celebrity fashion statements and urban fashion trends. Most fashion blogs cover fashion from the biggest designer brands to an average bloke walking down the street.
Amanda started her blog almost six years ago. She is still shocked to this day about how much time has passed.  “I started Amanda's Fashion Spot because I really wanted to obtain an internship and I struggled to find one so I decided to start my blog.” “ I felt empowered when I started my blog because I felt as if I had my own special place in fashion,” she states proudly.  Starting something that you feel strongly about can give you a sense of entitlement. When putting your all into everything there is an element of risk-taking. With Amanda's blog she's simply sharing her interests with other individuals. While having true personality.
Everyone that knows the fashion industry well enough knows that there are perks when it comes to being a fashion blogger. “The perks of being a fashion blogger include having your own voice and creative freedom to write about and feature whatever you choose,” she says humbly. Thoroughout the duration of Amanda being a fashion blogger she has been able to preview select fashion collections before anyone else. “ I have received free products and it is always flattering when companies reach out to me and ask me to blog about them,“ she says. With Amanda being a fashion blogger it also helped her get chosen as one of the Canadian finalists for GUESS Watches One To Watch worldwide contest.
Stines, gives credit to George Brown College and acknowledges that particular courses that were mandatory to the program helped her for the long run in the career and more importantly helped her with her career as a blogger. In fact, it was the Fashion Journalism course with Sarah Hood that awakened her passion for fashion journalism and inspired her to write about fashion. “I actually started my blog while I was taking the Fashion Journalism course! Being at George Brown College, I was able to learn to so much about the fashion industry and that made me want to have my own voice in the fashion industry which my blog allowed.” Her advice for someone who wants to be a succesful fashion blogger is firstly to determine what your intentions are. What do you want to do? Do you want to share your favourite outfits? Discuss fashion news? Write about the latest trends? Of course do what you want to do but be sure to have a main idea. Have a clear focus for your blog and stay consistent with your blog is the best way to have success as a blogger. “If a young fashion student would like to start a blog, I think that they should go ahead and do it! Right now, is a great and easy time to start a blog with the popularity of social media there are so many ways that someone can start a blog and express their fashion point of view.” she says. “Instagram is a great way to show your daily outfits or daily outfit inspirations and Twitter can also be used to write about your fashion points of view,” she adds. “Most importantly, no matter what profession you're in make sure that your always having fun and staying true to yourself.”  “Be who you are! Accept yourself as you really are, not as someone else thinks you should be. Do not take action or pretend to be someone else for the sake of gaining acceptance."

Happy Mother's Day: Stylish Mamas

Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers out there whether biological, by circumstance or in spirit!

In honour of mother's day, I thought that I would take a look at some of the stylish mamas out there in the celebrity stratosphere. There are so many stylish mothers but I managed to narrow down my list to four mothers who consistently keep our eyes glued to their every style change and move. These mothers take style to a whole other level with their fashion influence by causing dresses to sell out in record time, editors to mimic their every red carpet look and millions of fans to bow down to their royal style. These stylish mamas are more than style influencers they are all around real-life Wonder Woman whether they are inspiring women everywhere to be independent, flawless, survivors, showcasing American artisans on their lifestyle website or travelling the world supporting charities such as UNICEF and SportsAid, the stylish mamas that I am featuring have got it going on. Who are these stylish mamas? Scroll down below to find out!

Blake Lively

The former Gossip Girl, L'Oreal Paris Ambassador and star of the Age of Adaline, has got the sexy, All-American girl look down pat. With her fitted dresses, glamorous gowns and voluminous blonde hair Blake always stands out whether she is on a red carpet or sitting front row at a fashion show. Never one to shy away from bright saturated colours or a low neckline, Mrs. Ryan Reynolds keeps her outfits fun, playful and sophisticated. The creator of the lifestyle website, Preserve kept the glamorous looks coming when she was carrying her baby girl James in floor length dresses, such as the cream coloured one with lavender appliqué below. When she was enjoying more casual affairs she stuck to her love of colour, which can be seen in the coat she is wearing below.

The Queen B a.k.a Sasha Fierce is a powerhouse whether she is blowing us away on stage, dazzling  her millions of followers with her #OOTDs on Instagram or wowing us just by being herself. Her fashion sense has always been eye-catching (this year's Met Gala anyone?) as she embraces short shorts, cool hats and chic sunnies. When she is slaying on stage, Beyonce goes for sparkle with embellished body suits and thigh-high dresses, so it is no surprise that she announced her pregnancy in not one but two looks. First, in an one-shoulder tangerine gown on the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet and second, on stage in a fuchsia sequin blazer.

Kate Middelton

The Duchess of Cambridge has always had her own sense of style fit for a princess: ladylike, classic and elegant. With her wedges, classic coats and clutches, Kate Middleton has captivated the world with her approachable style. As a lover of simple, knee-length dresses, Kate also favours other timeless pieces such as skinny jeans, tailored blazers and simple pumps. Her approachable style is complemented by her luscious brown hair which is always perfectly styled with loose, layered curls. Whether Kate is with or without child, her style has remained consistent and we wouldn't expect anything else.

Happy Birthday to Me!

This past Saturday, I celebrated my birthday! I must say that it was the best birthday that I have ever had. It was a beautiful spring day filled with a clear sky, bright sun and the perfect warm breeze - just like the day I was born as my mother always likes to say. The day started with a lovely brunch at the Toronto hot spot, Saving Grace, then I took a lovely stroll and stopped for some frozen yogourt. Finally, I finished off the evening thinking about all of my goals for the next year.

As a Taurus, I am a visual person so it was important to me to wear something that I felt comfortable in and reflected my personality. For my birthday outfit, I chose to wear my pink tweed-like collarless coat to honour the pink blanket that I was wrapped in when I was born. A Chanel No. 5 perfume t-shirt to reflect my love of perfume and timeless glamour. My army green waxy Joe Fresh skinnies to reflect my love of skinny jeans and being an Earth sign. My D.I.Y. flower crown to topped off the look.

Scroll down below to see my birthday outfit!
