Summer Music Festival Fashion

We are in the middle of the summer, which means longer days, brighter skies and warmer temperatures - the perfect recipe for a summer music festival! Lucky for us, there are three summer music festivals this upcoming long weekend: Drake's OVO Festival, Montreal's Osheaga and the country musical festival, Boots and Hearts. Over the last few years, music festivals have become more than just watching the musical performers. Music festivals have become somewhat of a fashionable affair with concert goers strutting up and down the grassy fields in striking festival fashion. Each musical festival has its own distinct style that makes the music festival experience that much more memorable - whether it be a floral headdresses at Coachella or rain boots at Glastonbury. Like the musical festivals before them, OVO Festival, Osheaga and, Boots and Hearts have certain style staples that will keep you enjoying the music in style all weekend long.

Scroll down below to check out the looks!

1. OVO Festival Style

Started by Toronto's very own Drake, the OVO Festival has been going strong for the past few years. The surprise guests at each festival such as Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z and Kanye West, have made the event a summer must-see musical happening for concert goers alike. The relaxed vibe of the Molson Amphitheatre, the resident venue of OVO Fest, and the awesome music calls for a look that is equally  relaxed and awesome. Using Rihanna's a.k.a. the former Bad Girl Ri Ri outfit as inspiration I suggest that when attending OVO Fest wearing distressed jeans are the way to go, such as this pair by GUESS. A pop of colour adds to the fun factor of the look like this yellow polka dot top also by GUESS, is a fun summertime choice. Like most summer music festivals, OVO Fest occurs when the sun is still shining and a cool pair of black aviators like the one above from WATCH IT! will do just the trick when you need to protect those peepers. As I mentioned many times before, time flies when you are having fun but just in case you need to keep track of the time the above watch from WATCH IT! with its aqua coloured face is a nice contrast the bright yellow top.

2. Osheaga Style

The popular Canadian music festival held in Parc Jean-Drapeau Montreal attracts some pretty cool performers from OutKast, Flume, Lykke Li, London Grammar and Skrillex making it a major attraction for music lovers. Unlike Coachella, the style at Osheaga is a little more varied ranging from hippie style peasant blouses to brightly coloured printed skirts and dresses. Whether you attend one day or all three days of the concert event, I recommend wearing something comfortable and colourful such as the above dress worn by one half of the Beckerman Twins and this floral dress by GUESS. To accessorize, throw on a matching yet edgy fringe bag such as this one by Manitobah Mukluks, plastic-rimmed super-trendy mirrored lens sunglasses and a sleek watch from WATCH IT!.

3. Boots and Hearts Style

If country music is your thing, then the Boots and Hearts festival is your jam. This year, the country music festival is set to have sexy country star, Blake Shelton, the popular Luke Bryan and the all male group, High Valley. Country music style is all about denim, denim, denim whether it be short shorts a la country music superstar Carrie Underwood or the currently trendy overalls such as this pair by GUESS. A bustier style top like the one above from GUESS with a tiny floral print adds to the fun, sassy country music vibe. This leather-looking bag from BRIKA and long strapped watch from WATCH IT! play up the rugged country music feel and have you fitting right in when you are grooving to some country music!

All of that standing, walking, dancing and partying at the music festivals can take a toll on your tootsies and as we all know ladies, no outfit is complete without shoes. However when attending a music festival, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes with style. Check out a few cozy footwear styles below!

What do you plan on wearing to the music festivals this upcoming long weekend? What are your music festival style staples? Let me know in the comments below, Facebook and Twitter! Also, don't forget to check out Amanda's Fashion Spot on Pinterest and Instagram!

To Wear White or To Not Wear White: Amanda's Fashion Spot Tackles The Great Debate!

Source: lover.ly
White is the colour of purity, innocence and new beginnings. White is the signature colour of summer. White is the new black, didn't you know? There are few occasions in life where it is customary, if not necessary to wear white, except after Labour Day! (heehee) These events include white tie events such as formal balls, the Sensation dance music event, a daytime Spring event and most famously on your wedding day. According to HowStuffWorks.com once images of Queen Victoria in a white wedding dress caught the attention of the public, it was declared in Godey's Lady's Book that "white was the most fitting hue, whatever the material" and thus the tradition of wearing a white wedding dress began. Since the 19th century, white wedding dresses have been the colour of choice for brides and at one point wearing a white wedding dress was considered a status symbol. Along with the traditions associated with bridal gowns comes traditions associated with the attire of wedding guest, which is always followed by the question - is it ever ok for a guest to wear white to a wedding?

As a fashionista and someone who values tradition, I am a firm believer that if you are not the bride it is never ok to wear white to a wedding. Even though a wedding is an union let's get real ladies so much of the focus of the big day is on the wedding dress. Now there are are times when a bride may wear a coloured dress, however I still believe that unless the bride states that it acceptable for her guests to wear white, then it is not ok to wear white to a wedding. Lucky for guests everywhere there are many clothing options to wear to a wedding that do not include white. In my opinion, the best looks to wear to a wedding include something that is ladylike with a colour, texture or a print. Each of these options will ensure that you standout without drawing attention away from the bride. If you are attending a wedding anytime soon, I suggest that you visit Lover.ly, an easy-to-use online wedding planning tool to make planning the big day stress-free. The wonderful website also has an online shop where as a guest you can easily purchase a wedding guest appropriate dress.

Scroll down below for some wedding guest dress inspiration!

The Simple Colourful Dress

When attending a wedding, you can't go wrong with wearing a solid colour because it is a foolproof and safe way to look put together and appropriate at the same time. Bright colours are a good way to go as they flatter most skin tones and are a sure way to make a statement that won't in any way compete with the bride. The hot pink dress worn by Jamie Chung in the photo above is a perfect look if wearing a simple, colourful dress is the way that you choose to go. Lover.ly has a similar dress by Keepsake for $105 that you can access here.

The Ethereal Printed Dress

Weddings are oh so romantic, dreamy and mark a new beginning for two people who are madly in love. An ethereal print dress, which Amanda's Fashion Spot defines as a printed dress either floral or abstract in soft colours that typically include shades of blue, periwinkle or lavender, is a lovely style of dress to wear to a wedding because it evokes the newness and purity of a new marriage with its beautiful colours and prints. The above dress worn by Olivia Palermo is a perfect example of an ethereal print dress with its abstract floral print in a variety of colours. The below dress is by Nicole Miller ATELIER costs $355 and is available at Lover.ly.

The Lace Dress

Although lace is something that is typically worn by the bride, it is still acceptable to wear lace to a wedding. In fact, I encourage it. Just like The Ethereal Print Dress, a lace dress channels the romance of the day. Wearing a lace dress in a shade such as yellow is a good choice as it is associated with happiness and is used to evoke feelings of optimism.  Miranda Kerr's ladylike yellow lace dress is an excellent choice to wear to a wedding and lucky for you Lover.ly carries a similar style by Dessy for $262.
The Strapless High-Low Dress

Source: lover.ly
When attending a wedding if you are unsure whether to wear a full-length dress or show off those legs, a strapless high-low dress is the choice for you. The Strapless High-Low dress has a formal touch while still looking playful at the same time. Blake Lively styled her high-low dress nicely with gold cuff bracelets and peep toe pumps in a contrasting shade. Blake kept the neckline simple which is a smart choice because it ensures that the attention is on the dress. If this dress tickles your fancy, you can purchase a similar style by Dessy for $230 available at Lover.ly.

The Full-Length Printed Dress

Source: lover.ly
If you are a guest at a more formal wedding, a full length floral print is a great choice. Full-length dresses are formal by nature and the floral print keeps the dress within the realm of new beginnings and romance. This dress worn by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has an exotic and glamorous vibe that is also evoked in this Amsale dress available at Lover.ly for $259.

If you would like to hear more about the Great Debate, head over to Lover.ly right here and read their thoughts on whether or not a guest should wear white to a wedding. What are your thoughts on the Great Debate? Is it ever appropriate as a guest to wear white to a wedding? Let me know in the comments below, Facebook and Twitter! Warby Parker's Introduces the Beacon Collection

Wearer of (prescription) glasses and lover of sunglasses I am excited to share with all of my Amanda's Fashion Spot readers the newest, limited-edition eyeglass and sunglass collection from Warby Parker entitled, the Beacon Collection which is inspired by those unplanned, unforgettable and completely fun, seemingly endless nights. Warby Parker creates vintage-inspired, high-quality prescription eyewear and sunglasses at an affordable price with a pair of glasses being distributed to someone in need for every pair sold.

Over the past few years, eyewear has become more than a necessity for some and a fashion statement for all. With frames and lenses that come in a variety of shades and shapes, deciding which pair to put on when you are getting dressed in the morning is easy peasy.

For a peak at some of my favourite eyeglass and sunglass styles from the Beacon Collection that launches today as well as pictures from the campaign, scroll down below!

This eyeglass style with its round frame is the McKee in Whiskey Tortoise. I adore the always fashionable tortoise shade of the frames as they add a chic touch to every outfit. The round shape of the eyeglasses are fun and a great style to wear when you are in the mood for a memorable night.

These square-shaped style sunglasses with curves are called the Ingram. The Revolver Black colour adds a classic touch to your outfit for a night of careless amusement.

These translucent eyeglasses are another McKee style now in Moonstone. These eyeglasses are quirky and will complement an outfit consisting of trendy items such as, crop tops, holographic accessories and colourful tie dye prints.

When the sun starts to rise and the nighttime fun starts to wind down, it's time to slap on those sunnies. This is another Ingram style this time coming in Tiger Tortoise. The combination of blue lenses and tortoise shell make for a look that is both funky and chic. What better accessory to wear when capping off a wild night?

These lemon coloured Nancy sunglasses remind me of the large glamorous sunglasses that have been worn by the likes of Jackie O and Twiggy. The bright colour makes the morning after a crazy all-nighter a little bit more merry and cheery.
